Alice was born in 1869 in Texas. (The story behind her middle name is a big family mystery - all the ancestors were Mennonite, and children were usually given the mother's LNAB as a middle name....where did Cortez come from??) Her mother died when she was about 10 and her father remarried and took the family to MIssouri, where she married a cousin. She and Jason lived near Palmyra on a farm , formerly known as the Barkley place, which was purchased for them by her father-in-law, John N. Landis. She was married for more than 50 years, and celebrated a golden anniversary with Jason. They had eight children, all of whom were born on the family farm. She passed away in 1941.
