Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for adding the categories on Edmunds Ballard Holloway (abt.1821-1861). It's hard to keep track of all the categories available so great to have specialists like you to come along and add them on certain subjects.

This may be a bit pedantic but this category seems incorrect to me:

  • Category: 8th Infantry Regiment, United States Army, United States Civil War

While he fought in the regiment of the same name in the Mexican-American war, I believe he died serving as leadership in the Missouri State Guard before it largely aligned with CSA. He was killed by friendly fire but "friendly" in terms of the side opposed to the United States Army, not aligned with them according to historical accounts.

Am I wrong that this category makes it seem like he was a union solider which conflicts with other evidence? Maybe he was caught in the middle before sides were drawn?

While this is a distant cousin of mine, I have no emotional ties to these details (and even less am I a Civil War historian), but just want to make sure the record is straight for future travelers. And in the case I may be interpreting things incorrectly, I'd like to make sure I'm set straight.

Thanks, Joe

Thank you for reaching out,

Yes, you are correct. I must confess that most of my expertise is with the Seminole and Mexican-American Wars, so these nuances between units in the American Civil War can be rather confusing at times.

Not to mention, sources which cite the incident that he was involved in have conflicting interpretations. Nonetheless, I will amend it accordingly.

Very respectfully,

~ Nic

Nicholas, I have awarded the Military and War Badge for the Military and War Project to you.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Military_and_War It covers many wars that WikiTree does not have badges for. Please read it in depth.

We put all badges on hold while I polled the current members for their activity. There are Categories for the 2nd Seminole War, but there is no subproject. This is the wikitree page for them https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Seminole_Wars. Be sure to specify which war the profile fits into. Be sure also to use good sources for this with links.

The Mexican American war project is here https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Mexican_American_War

Thanks

Hi Nicholas,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
