Thomas was born around 1818 and, by 1860, he was working as a county surveyor within Washington County, North Carolina. He lived there with his wife Ann and their five children: Mary, Thomas, James, Alethia, and Henry.[1]
During the American Civil War, Bembridge, at the age of 43, enlisted into the 1st Regiment, North Carolina Infantry as a private.
