Biography

Herbert was born in 1879 at 107 High Street, Ilfracombe. He is the son of William Robbins and Mary Morgan.

In the 1891 Census, Herbert aged 12, and his siblings Clarrie, aged 13, Ivor aged 9, and Roland aged 5, are boarders with James and Rebecca Lock at Skelbrook Street, Wandsworth London & Surrey, England. The children are all described as scholars.

In the 1911 Census, Herbert, aged 31 house decorator and painter, was living at 127 Diana Street Cardiff with his Aunt Agnes Robbins, household head aged 41, and siblings Ivor aged 29 clerk, Gladys aged 27 dressmaker and Roland aged 25, clerk.

Herbert, aged 34, painter, migrated to Australia in 1912. He departed Liverpool on 21 Dec 1912 bound for Sydney on board Shire line ship "Argyllshire".

In the 1913 Electoral roll, Herbert Vivian, painter and brother Ivor Leslie, painter are resident at 53 Darley Road, Manly in the electorate of Middle Harbour. Herbert's uncle, Henry Thomas Robbins and wife Herberta are residing at 26 Darley Road, Manly.

Herbert, aged 38, painter, of Manly, NSW, married Edith Emily Ashton on 23 Jun 1917 at the Methodist Church, Rockdale. ^[1]
