Charles Rivington was born in July 1835 at Piccadilly, Middlesex and was christened on 27 August the same year at St James Piccadilly.[1] He was the son of Francis Rivington and Louisa Hansard.
Charles went to Hong Kong where he was a mercantile clerk for well-known trading firm Jardine, Matheson & Co of East Point, Hong Kong.[2] He co-founded the Shanghai Mercury in 1879 as a daily newspaper.[3]
He passed away in Shanghai, China on 2 September 1886.[3]
