Biography

^[1] Éthienne Riou was born on 3 Aug 1750 and was baptized sous condition on 12 Aug in Notre-Dame-des-Neiges parish in Trois-Pistoles, Nouvelle-France. He was the son of Sieur Étienne Rioux and Véronique Lepage. Sponsors at the infant Éthienne's baptism were Sieur Nicolas Riou and Marie Catherine Gerbert; Marie Catherine Gerbert signed the register. ^[2]

Etienne was married twice.

At age 21 Etienne married Marie Rosalie Costé on 15 Jan 1772 in Saint-Jean-Baptiste parish in L'Isle-Verte, Province de Québec. ^[3] There were eight known children born into this marriage. (1774, Joseph; abt 1779, Cecile; 1783, Isabelle; 1784, Theodore; 1785, Maximien; 1788, Hilaire; 1790 Modeste; 1792, Etienne)

His first wife, Marie Rosalie, passed away in 1794.

On 3 Aug 1795 Etienne Rioux, widower of the late Rosalie Cote, and son of Etienne Rioux and Veroniqe Lepage, married Josephe Lavoie, daughter of Jean Lavoie and Josephe Berube, at Notre-Dame-de-Liesse in Riviere-Ouelle, Kamouraska, QC. ^[4]

His second wife, Josephe Lavoie, died about 9 months after their marriage, on 1 May 1796, at the reported age of about 31 years. ^[5]

Étienne Rioux died on 4 Apr 1818 and was buried on 6 Apr at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges in Trois-Pistoles, Temiscouata, QC. He was reported to be aged 68 years. ^[6]
