Caterina Riina is born and baptized on 30 October 1871 in Corleone. She is the daughter of peasants Giacomo Riina and Giuseppa di Miceli.[1] Her godparents are Maestro Rosolino lo Curto and Lucia Riina, a married couple.[2]
She marries Bernardo di Miceli, son of Calogero di Miceli and Salvatrice Carrabba, on 29 October 1890. Their marriage record conains a dispensation due to second degree consanguinity in the maternal line. The witnesses are Don Michaelangelo Zabbia and Pietro Cutrera.[3] Caterina and Bernardo are first cousins, once removed.
Caterina and Bernardo have at least four children: two daughters named Salvatrice (1893 and, Calogero, and Giuseppa.
The first daughter named Salvatrice, after her paternal grandmother, dies at three months of age on 11 September 1893.
Calogero is born 25 September 1894 at 25 via Misericordia. This record calls his father a sensale (a broker or agent).
The second daughter named Salvatrice is born 9 December 1898 and baptized two days later. Her godparents are Calogero and Salvatrice di Miceli, brother and sister.[4]
Giuseppa, named after her maternal grandmother, dies at seven months of age on 5 November 1903.
