Biography

Salvatore Riina is a Corleone native resident, the son of Angelo Riina and Domenica Petranella. He is named after his paternal grandfather. I estimate Salvatore is born around 1823, twenty years before he marries.

Salvatore marries Mattea Governali, daughter of Bernardo Governali and Bernarda di Carlo, on 2 February 1843. His parents have both died by this time.^[1]

Salvatore and Mattea have at least four children: Bernardo (1854), Maria (c. 1864), Giovanni Leoluca (c. 1869), and Giuseppe (c. 1878).

Bernardo is born in 1854.

Maria is born around 1864, based on her reported age at death.

I estimate Giovanni Leoluca is born around 1869, twenty years before he marries.

I estimate Giuseppe is born around 1878, twenty years before he marries.

Giovanni Leoluca marries Vincenza Marino on 27 October 1889. Collateral line consanguinity is detected as an impediment, and a dispensation is obtained on 17 October for this marriage. Salvatore has died by this time.^[2]

Bernardo marries for the third time, to Rosaria Berlingeri, on 9 October 1897.^[5]

Giuseppe marries Maria Zangara on 26 June 1898.^[6]

Maria dies at age 38 (b. 1864) on 7 May 1902. Mattea has died by this time. Maria's husband, Bernardo Governali, survives her.^[7]
