Biography

Salvatore Riina is born and baptized 23 March 1758, the son of Antonino Riina and Francesca Fulco. His godparents are Don Domenico Cianciolo and Anna Maria Cirasa, who is unmarried.[1]

Salvatore marries Maria Liggio, daughter of Nicolo' Liggio and Francesca Piranio ("Praino"), on 16 September 1781.[2][3] Their marriage record calls his mother Francesca Stilla.

Salvatore and Maria have at least six children: Angelo (1782), Giuseppa (c. 1785), Francesca (c. 1787), Gioachino (c. 1788), Nicolo' (c. 1799), and Bernardo (c. 1801).

Angelo is born and baptized 6 November 1782. His godparents are Santo and Giovanna Sanzone, a married couple.[4]

I estimate Giuseppa is born around 1785, twenty years before she marries.

I estimate Francesca is born around 1787, twenty years before she marries. She is named after her paternal grandmother.

I estimate Gioachino is also about twenty when he marries.

Nicolo's birth year is based on his age in an 1834 census.

I estimate Bernardo is around 20 years old at marriage. He is named after a paternal uncle who died as a young man.[5]

Angelo marries Domenica Petranella on 1 September 1805.[6]

Giuseppa marries Gioachino Pomara on 27 October 1805.[7]

Francesca marries Antoninio Governal on 22 November 1807.[8]

Gioachino marries Lucia Marino on 22 May 1808.[9]

Bernardo marries Lucia Gennaro on 7 January 1821. His parents are still living.[10]

Nicolo' marries Maria Palumbo on 26 April 1824.[11]

Nicolo' appears in the 1834 stato delle anime, age 35 (b. 1799), with his wife and four children.
