Biography

Bernardo Rumore is born and baptized 28 October 1885, the son of Carmela Rumore and an unknown father. His godmother is Biagia Provenzano, who is unmarried. A note beneath his baptismal record indicates that his father is Gioachino Riina, and that he marries Carmela in extremis on 5 October 1898, making Bernardo legitimate.^[1] Bernardo is named after his paternal grandfather.

Sometime before 1889, the family moves to Calatafimi, where his father is a field guard. His parents marry in a civil ceremony there in 1891. They return to Corleone by 1893. In October 1898, his mother Carmela is gravely ill, and Gioachino marries her in extremis. She dies the following month, age 37.

Bernardo marries Lucia Mancuso, daughter of Francesco Mancuso and Domenica Salemi, on 21 October 1910 in Corleone.^[2]
