Biography

Margaret was born in 1884, the first child born to her parents Frederick Richard Raine and Mary Ann Parkinson who had immigrated from England in 1883 to Portage La Prairie in Manitoba, Canada. Margaret, known as Madge, grew up on the family farm. In 1909 she married George E. Horton, who worked for a real estate company in Winnipeg. Madge and George had two sons and two daughters. They lived in Winnipeg most of their lives. In 1957 when George retired, the Hortons moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. Madge died there in 1970 and was buried in the Capilano View Cemetery in West Vancouver.

A very pretty wedding was celebrated yesterday in Grace Church when Miss Margaret Raine was married to (Mr.) George Horton of Crescent Land Company. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. S. Woodsworth. The bride who was given away by Mr. W. J. Hammond, wore a lovely princess gown of white lace over white satin. She wore a regulation veil and orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of bridal roses. Miss Bessie Horton as bridesmaid wore a pretty empire gown of maize liberty, satin with maize straw hat trimmed with black satin, and she carried a bouquet of pink roses. The groom was attended by Mr. Lorne J. Elliot. Mrs. Raine wore a becoming black costume. Mrs. King, sister of the bride was gowned in pink silk mull with white lace hat trimmed with rosebuds. Mrs. Horton wore a handsome black cloth gown and Miss Horton was in black voile with white leghorn hat. Mr. and Mrs. Horton left on the 6.15 train for an eastern trip.
