Biography
Mary (Railton) Withell migrated from England to New Zealand.
Mary was baptised in 1836 in Middleton, Yorkshire, England,[1] where she lived with her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth, in 1851.[2]
She married Reuben Withell in 1857.[3] Mary and her family emigrated to New Zealand aboard the vessel John Temperley, which departed England on 13 March 1866 and arrived into Lyttelton on 21 June 1866. She is recorded on the passenger list as being aged 28, her husband Reuben (aged 28), a "farm labourer", and sons Charles (aged 7), Oliver (aged 2) and Railton (6 months).
Shortly after the couple arrived into Christchurch, New Zealand, they moved to Brookside, Selwyn, Canterbury, where they farmed.
Mary passed away in 1899, aged 62.
