About the Project

The Walsh Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Walsh name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Walsh name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Walshes), by time period (18th Century Walshes), or by topic (Walsh DNA, Walsh Occupations, Walsh Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

Hi, Liz. Thanks for your message. I have not been on my group for some time. I assumed that I would receive a message on my Wikitree page if some one wanted to join the group. I see now that this is not so and I have answered all requests, but it would be easier if I received messages on my page from prospective enlisters to the group. Thanks.

Hello, I just registered. I am specifically interested in Thomas Walsh from the Great Bona, area of Newfoundland. I would like to find his parents and where they came from. I have an account on Ancestry where I do most of my work. My immediate paternal family was based in Merasheen, Plasentia Bay, Newfoundland. Questions welcome.

Hi, Kevin. Welcome to the group. My family is from County Kilkenny, a place called The Rower (An Robhar in Irish Gaelic). My family is also linked to Baunreagh (An Ban Riabhach) close to the border between County Kilkenny and County Tipperary. Have a browse around, maybe you'll find some useful information). Happy hunting.

Hi Kevin, a David and Peter Walsh arrived in the Waterford/Wexford Ireland area with the Anglo/Norman invasion of Ireland. Another Walsh arrived arrived at Dublin with King Henry, that is how the Walsh line started.

Hi, Kelly. I am a Walsh and I live in Newfoundland. My paternal Grandparents migrated from "The Rock" to Boston and Cambridge, but returned to Newfoundland after a few years. Do you have any information you could share concerning your ancestors who emigrated to Newfoundland. I would be more than interested as may well be others on this group.

Hi! I added text to the companion category for your name study (Category:Walsh Name Study). Feel free to edit it. The default for the template is to add the main category, but you can add a line to have a different category. See the ONS template page for details. Give me a holler if you have any questions about categorization.

I also created a redirect, so Project:Walsh (the link for the button from the Walsh surname page) brings you to this page.

Cheers, Liz
