About the Project
The Benfell Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Benfell name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the SRNM name.
I believe that this name is widely spread across (or spreading from) Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire in England and that the names Benfield/Binfield/Bonfield are inseparable from Benfell/Bonfall. As far as I know the name Benefeld from Norfolk has a different source. Rodgers-4539 12:34, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Benfells), by time period (18th Century Benfells), or by topic (Benfell DNA, Benfell Occupations, Benfell Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Background
My interest in the name Benfell came initially from my grandmother Lilian (Benfell) Rodgers. While researching this side of the family I have picked up snippets about this large family who emigrated from England to New Zealand as a multi-generational group over several voyages in the 19th century.
