Biography

Benjamin was born in Virginia about in about 1833. ^[1]

He married Sarah Jane Williams in 1860 before the Civil War started.

Benjamin was mustered into the Confederate Army in 1862. He served in the 36th Regiment of Virginia, (Second Kanawha Infantry, Company H.^[2] He was captured and imprisoned at Camp Chase until the war ended. After the CIvil War he returned to Civilian life and served as sheriff of Giles County, He was in poor health so many of the duties of the office were performed by deputies.^[3]

He died in 1872 and was interred at the Porterfield (Gasper Link) Cemetery. ^[4]
