Biography

Absalom's mother, Elizabeth Betty (Denson) Porter (abt.1725-1780) and father, John Porter (abt.1720-abt.1796) had been married 1st day, 10th month, 1743 in Pagan Creek, Virginia. Absalom's father was still in residence in Nansemond, Virginia as late as 1767, so it is safe to presume that Absalom's birth was in Virginia. 27 Jun 1796, John Porter left a Sampson County, North Carolina will that included among sons and daughters Absalom Porter.^[1]

He is found in the 1790 Sampson County census,^[2] as well as the 1800 Fayetteville, Sampson County census.^[3]

His spouse is unknown, but researchers place her as Elizabeth Whitaker (1764-1841). Among children placed with them were:

1. James Henry Porter Sr (1784-1840)^{[citation needed]}
2. Wiley Bright Porter (1795-1878)^{[citation needed]}
