After some life experiences returned stayed for a month or two.
Left for California, met my wife to be in Carmel. Ended up in NYC for a few months, married her in Greenwich ,Connecticut.
Moved to Malibu, Ca. in 1972.
Driving cross country in a Volvo station wagon..slipping sliding down from Flagstaf to Phoenix the gearshift came up out of the car in my hand! Shoved it back down and managed to stop
just a mile or so short or so of a Volvo dealer. It was SUNDAY. But lo and behold they were open and were able to repair the car.
Anyway I left home never expecting to see my family again. I wonder how my great, great granparents felt about leaving their family behind. After all there wasn't telephones, internet, maybe mail.
