I am originally from southwest Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa where I met my husband. I earned a library degree and worked in university libraries in Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota and Indiana. I'm now enjoying retirement in Indianapolis.
I studied history at the University of South Dakota, specializing in the American West. I've been doing genealogy my whole life. My dad was a local historian of sorts and was always interested in his family's history. I caught the bug from him.
My other major hobby is photography, mostly landscapes. I've traveled a fair bit with my archaeologist husband and have visited some interesting places.
Late in life I learned that my dad was not my biological father, so I have another family to research. I generally use a family tree with three branches: my mother's, my biological father's and my dad's. (See http://karen-zimmerman.com/genealogy/ for my work in progress.) Yes, I'm a computer geek also. I love databases!
Here I will be using my DNA tree.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

As you add family profiles, you can use the green tabs near the top of each profile to find out what info will be visible to others - just toggle between private and public views.
If you need help, ask a question in our G2G forum: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g. Most WikiTree members are eager to offer guidance to a fellow genealogist. If you need additional help using WikiTree, our Mentors Project is a great group of volunteers who will be glad to assist you.

Wikitree is one BIG world-wide family tree that is freely accessible to everyone. Our goal is to have one profile per person which means we all work together as a BIG friendly and polite collaborative team!
If you are interested in sharing your research and want to collaborate to add your family, please fill out the TAGS on your profile page and click SAVE TAG(s) AND VOLUNTEER.
Each Tag should be a single surname like SMITH or single location like CANADA with a comment explaining why this subject interests you.
