Sarah "Sallie" Peters was born on October 1, 1842, in Shenandoah, Virginia, to John Pence and Catherine Pence. She married Adam Pence on November 2, 1865, in Shenandoah, Virginia. They had seven children in 17 years. She died on May 9, 1924, in her hometown at the age of 81, and was buried in Shenandoah, Virginia.
