Biography

Carmelo Pennino is born around 1914 in Corleone, the son of Salvatore Pennino and Orsola Gagliano. He is named after his paternal grandfather.

Carmelo follows in his father's footsteps as a campiere at the Rao feudo in Corleone, and in membership of the mafia.^[1]

On the manifest of the SS M/N Vulcania sailing from Naples on 10 Jan 1930, is this family from Corleone:

Orsola Pennino Gagliano, 41 (b. 1889), married, and her children Girolama Pennino, 9 (b. 1921), Lucia, 6 (b. 1924), Maria, 5 (b. 1925), and Carmelo, 16 (b. 1914). Carmelo is a student. Their visas were issued on 14 Dec 1929. Their nearest relative in Sicily is Orsola's brother in law, Antonio Pennino. Orsola has $50. They are going to join Orsola's husband, Salvatore Pennino, at 638 E. 227 St in New York and plan to be there for six months. Orsola is 5'2" with gray hair and brown eyes. The children all have brown hair and brown eyes. Only two of their heights are listed, Orsola's and Antonino, who is 5'1". All are listed with a "natural" complexion.^[2]

His father is killed in the US. Carmelo becomes a member of the clan loyal to Dr. Michele Navarra.^[1]

Carmelo marries Leoluchina Moscato (b. 1926, d. 24 Jan 1963 natural causes). They have no children.^[1]

Carmelo has no criminal record, and owns no real estate at his death.^[1]

At least two of Carmelo's sisters are married to known members of the mafia.
