Biography

Salvatore Pennino, son of Carmelo Pennino and an unknown mother, is born and baptized 4 August 1885 in Corleone. His godfather is Giuseppe Cardella, who is unmarried. Salvatore is subsequently legitimized by the marriage of his parents, Carmelo Pennino and Girolama di Puma, on 25 November 1897.^[1]

Salvatore marries Orsola Gagliano on 29 October 1912.^[2]

Orsola and Salvatore have at least four children: Carmelo (1913), Girolama (c. 1921), Maria (c. 1925), and Lucia (c. 1926).

Carmelo is born 25 February 1913.^[3]

Stefano Badami, 38 (b. 1889) born in Corleone, an Italian, arrives 15 March 1927 in New York City from Cherbourg, France on the Leviathan. On the line above Stefano is Salvatore Pennino, 42 (b. 1885), merchant, married, also from Corleone. They are both traveling on visas issued in Tunis, Algeria. Salvatore leaves his wife Orsola Gagliano in Corleone and Stefano leaves his wife, “Oulista” Badami in Roccamena. Salvatore is joining his brother in law Tommaso Gagliano at 636 227th St., New York. Stefano is joining his friend, the same person.^[4]

Carmelo is described in the Senate inquest as the son of a mafioso who was killed in the US. He succeeds his father as the campiere of the Rao feudo in Corleone and belongs to the Navarra cosca.^[3]

Lucia marries Antonio Mancuso Marcello on 24 February 1946.^[5] Antonio is also described as a "known mobster" by the Italian Senate's inquest into the Mafia.^[3]

Salvatore's brother, Antonino, is killed in the Navarra-Leggio War in Corleone.
