Roger Pemberton was born in Hertfordshire, England.
Roger Pemberton
was born about 1554 at St Albans, Hertfordshire. He was the son of Robert Pemberton of St Albans and his wife Catherine, as shown in the Visitation of Hertfordshire 1664. [1]
A bishop of London marriage license was issued 06 May 1579 for Roger Pemberton, of St Alban's in St Alban's, Herts, & Elizabeth Moores, Spinster, of same; to be married at St Anne & Agnes, London. [2][3] They had at least five children:
John Pemberton (1583 - 1644) M.1 Katherine Angell M.2 Elizabeth Audley
Roger was High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 1620. [4]
Roger died 13 Nov 1627 (date given at inquisition post mortem) leaving a will dated 13 Dec 1624, and proved 5 Dec 1627, as of "Roger Pemberton of St Albans, Hertfordshire, esquire. [5][6] He leaves bequests to his sons John, Robert and Ralph, to his daughter Tecla, and to his godson Roger Williams
As part of his will Roger Pemberton established an almshouse in St Albans for six widows. This was apparently as atonement for having accidently killed a widow earlier in his life, in an accident with a bow and arrow. [7][8]
An inquisition post mortem was conducted for Roger Pemberton at Chipping Barnet on 17 May 1628. [9]
Research note
The Visitation of Northampton for 1681 gives different parents for Roger Pemberton of St Albans who married Elizabeth Moore. It states his parents as Jefferey Pemberton of Whiston, Lancashire. It states that he settled in St Albans and was descended from the Pemberton's of Pemberton hall, Lancashire. The visitation of Hertfordshire, 1664 gives parents as shown on wikitree (excluding that it does not state the maiden name of Robert Pemberton's wife Catherine.
