Biography
John was born about 1824 and baptised 24 August 1824 in Kenwyn, son of Richard (a miner) and Cordelia Pearce of Penstrace Moors, Kenwyn[1]
In the 1841 census Richard Pearce (48, copper miner), Cordelia (48), Mary (20), Jane (18), John (16, copper miner), Caroline (14), James (12), Richard (8), Matilda (5) and William (3) are living in Penstrace, Kenwyn[2]
John Pearce married Catherine Bettis on 6 July 1850 at St Minver. John was a miner, resident St Minver, son of Richard (a miner), Catherine was under 20, resident St Minver, daughter of Thomas (a labourer). Witnesses were Jane Phillip and Joseph Bennet[3]
In the 1851 census, John Pearse (26, lead miner born Kenwen), wife Catherine (16 born St Minver), their son William (4m born St Minver) are lodging with Mary Belles in Carruan, St Minver Lanlivery. Also visiting is Richard Pearse (58, copper miner born Kenwyn)[4]
John's wife Catherine died in 1857.
John Pearce married Caroline Knight on 29 August 1858 in Quethiock[5][6]
In the 1861 census, John Pearce (35, lead miner born Kenwyn), wife Caroline (25 born St Minver), and children William (10) born St Minver, Thomas (8 born St Minver) and John (1 born Quethiock) are living at Venn Hill, Quethiock[7][8]
John's second wife Caroline died in 1875
John Pearce married Fanny Lemin in Pwllheli, Caernarvonshire in 1876[9]
In the 1881 census, John Pearce (54, lead miner born Kenwon), wife Frances (52 born St Austell) and unmarried children Richard (21 born Quethiock), Edwin (17 born Quethiock), Bessie (14 born Quethiock), Jane Ann (13 born Quethiock), grandson James Whitford (2 born Pwllheli, Caernarvonshire) and lodgers Thomas Morgan (24) and John Andrews (21) are living at Old Chapel House, Pwlllheli, Caernarvonshire, Wales[10]
In the 1891 census, John Pearce (64, lead miner born Kenwyn, Cornwall), wife Frances (63 born Roche, Cornwall), son-in-law William Jones (30 born Llanengan, Caernarvonshire) and his wife Bessie Maria Jones (26 born Quethiock, Cornwall), grandsons James Lemin (12 born Llanengan) and William John Roberts (6 born Llanengan) are living at Tan y Bwlen (transcription unclear), Llanengan, Pwllheli, Caernarvonshire[11]
