Biography

Giuseppa Maria Palazzo is born 15 August 1786 and baptized the next day. She is the daughter of Vincenzo Palazzo and Antonina Marino. Her godparents are Ciro and Cecilia Campo, a married couple.[1]

A review of the matrimonial indices for 1721-1797 does not yield a match for Giuseppa's parents. Cascio-10 23:12, 30 November 2016 (EST)

Giuseppa marries Vincenzo Listi, son of Salvatore Listi and Biagia Papania, on 12 October 1806.[2]

Vincenzo and Giuseppa have at least seven children: Carmela (c. 1807), Salvatore (c. 1810), Vincenzo (c. 1812), Biagio (1814), Antonina (c. 1819), Biagia (c. 1821), and Giovanna (1824).

I estimate Carmela is born around 1807, twenty years before she marries.

Biagio is born and baptized 12 January 1814. His godparents are Carlo and Anna Mule', brother and sister, both unmarried.[3]

Giovanna is born 9 February 1824 and baptized the next day. Her godparents are Ciro and Damiana Orlando, a married couple.[4]

The other children are all known from their appearance in the 1834 Church census.

Carmela marries Vincenzo la Russa on 28 January 1827.[5]

In 1834, Vincenzo Listi, 54 (b. 1780), his wife Giuseppa, 52 (b. 1782), and children Salvatore, 24 (b. 1810), Vincenzo, 22 (b. 1812), Antonina, 15 (b. 1819), Biagia, 13 (b. 1821), and Giovanna, 10 (b. 1824), live in the vanella di Oliva, near the strada di Falangano.[6] Biagio does not appear with his father's household in this record.

In the summer of 1837, Biagio, called "Frattaglione," is 23 years old. He may seem younger than his age: the historian Don Colletto describes him as 19 years old when he takes part in a Republican plot to blame the cholera epidemic on Bourbon spies. Biagio kills three women on 23 July, including two who were widowed by a murderous mob, just two days before. He also kills one man, and seriously injures another.

Biagio is tried on 1 August and executed the next day.[7][8] The Church record of his death does not name his parents or give his age.[9]

Salvatore marries at least twice, first to Carmela Schillaci.

Salvatore remarries to Giuseppa Liuria on 23 September 1838 in Corleone.[10]

Vincenzo marries Felicia Billitti on 21 September 1845.[11]
