"LAWRENCE." Clarence and Richmond Examiner (Grafton, NSW : 1889 - 1915) 21 August 1897

LAWRENCE. THURSDAY. WEDDING.—Richmond-street looked quite gay on Thursday morning as a bridal party went to and came from the Presbyterian Church, where the Rev. Mr. Cameron, of Cowper, joined Miss Page, of Lower Lawrence, to Mr. James Law, of the same place, in the bonds of holy wedlock. There were quite a number of vehicles and horses. The bride was given away by her father (Mr. Charles Page, late of Grafton), and appeared in a very pretty dress of Indian linen, trimmed with valencenni lace, while she wore a beautiful spray of orange blossoms on her head, and an appropriate veil.

The bride's sister, Miss Mina Page, looked very neat in a shot alpacca dress, with material to match. The bridegroom's brother acted in the capacity of best man.

The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion, while the grass was fresh and green as spring time can make it, the sun bright and the sky its bluest, and the soft morning breeze gently waved the light bridal attire as the happy pair led the way towards the new home and sumptuous breakfast, at which about 60 sat down. Mr. D. See, of Maclean, was chairman, and proposed the health of the newly wedded couple, to which the bridegroom suitably responded. Rev. A. P. Cameron proposed the health of the chairman, and the latter's reply brought the proceedings to a close.

The happy couple were the recipients of a large number of useful presents. They proceeded to Yamba, where they intend spending the honeymoon.

Various omens of future weal by well-wishers were offered. By the way, amongst others, a pair of the proverbial old shoes. Why such should be cast at persons on their happiest day and on the Queen's highway, I cannot divine. Is it a reminder that earthly bliss will not last for ever, or is it to express a strong wish that there may be much need for many shoes in the future? Anyway, the kindliest wishes of friends and relatives go with the young couple.
