Biography

Birth & Parents

Samuel Page, the son of Samuel Page and his second wife Anne Marshall, was baptized August 3, 1703. He was probably born in Hampton, New Hampshire, where his parents are known to have resided.[1][2]

Marriage

Samuel married Mary Clarke in Hampton on July 2, 1729. They resided at Kensington, New Hampshire.[1][3]

Death & Burial

Deacon Samuel Page died of "Jaundice" in Kensington on August 9, 1774, "in the 71st year of his age" (gravestone). He is buried in the Upper Yard Burial Ground in Kensington, where his gravestone reads:[1][2][4]

The Will of Samuel Page

Samuel Page's will was written July 23, 1774, and proved September 28, 1774. In the will are mentiond wife Mary, sons, Stephen, Simon, Enoch and Robert; daughters, Elizabeth Locke, Anna Rowe, Mary Hobbs, Marcy Longfellow and Sarah Bachelder.[5][15]

In the Name of God Amen. This Twenty 3'd Day of July in the year of our Lord Christ 1774, I Sam'l Page of Kensington in the County of Rockingham in the Province of New Hampshire Gentleman being at this time through the goodness of God of a sound Disposing mind & memory, Do make & Ordain this to be my last Will & Testament hereby Revoking all & every former Will or Wills Testament or Testaments by one at any time heretofore Made.
And first of all I commend my soul to God trusting in his mercy thro' the the merits of the Redemer & my body to a Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executors.
And as to such worldly Goods & Estate as it has Pleased God to bestow upon me, I do Divise & Dispose of the same in manner & form following,

First My will is & I do hereby Order that all my just Debts & funeral Charges shall be paid in conveniant time after my Decease by my Executors.

Item, I give & bequeath to my well beloved wife Mary the use Income & Improvement of one third part of all my lands in Kensington and hampton falls also the use of two lower Rooms in My Dwelling house.
And of what Room she shall want to make use of in the Chambers, Back Room & Cellar and the Improvement of one third of my Barn. Also the use of two Cows to be found & kept for her Use Summer & Winter by Executors Also Sufficient fireWood to be provided for her use at the Door by my Executors.
All the above articles my Wife is to have the use & Improvement of so long as she remains my Widow & no longer. I also give to my s'd Wife all my household goods not otherwise Particularly mentioned & disposed of in this my Will for her to use & dispose of as she Pleases.

Item, I give & bequeath to my son Stephen Page, to him his heirs and Assigns all the Land which I have lying on the west side of Cross Road which leads from hogpen Road (so Called) to horsehill Road in Kensington aforesaid, All? forty Acres lying on the west side of Josiah Dow's land saveing to my Wife the Improvement above mentioned during her Widow-hood.

Item, i give & bequeath to my son Simon Page to him his heirs & Assigns my Homestead where I now live lying Partly on the North side & partly on the South side of hogpen Road (so Called) with the Buildings thereon saving to my Wife the Improvement abovementioned During her Widowhood.

Item, I give & bequeath to my two Sons Stephen Page & Simon Page abovementioned the following Particulars in equal shares between them to be divided as to ?? & quantity & quality & each to hold one half to him his heirs & Assigns, Namely my Sawmill with all the Priviledges & Appurtanances belonging thereto also my land lying on the Falls River on the south end of land of Ebenezar Tucker. also all my salt marsh excepting a? acres Which I have Otherwise Disposed of in this my Will saving to my Wife the Improvement in the Land and Marsh above mentioned during her Widowhood.
I also give to my s'd two Sons in the same manner of above mentioned two Lotts of Land in the Township of Gilmantown the one called a hundred Acre Lott — N'o. 3 in the tenth Range the Other Called a forty acre Lott N'o. thirty nine in the second Range be the s'd Lotts more or less. I also give to my s'd two Sons in a manner aforesaid my wearing apparel & all my stock of Creatures & my Husbandry tools & my Clock & what money and Debts shall remain Due after funeral charge Debts & legacies as mentioned in this my Will shall be paid which I order my Sons to pay & provide for their Mother as abovementioned.

Item, I give & bequeath to my son Enoch Page to him his heirs and Assigns one Acre of Salt marsh in Hampton falls lying on the south side of Jonathan Greens Marsh and a Lott of Land in Gilmanton called a forty Acre Lott & is N'o. 43 in the second Range I also give him a Debt which he ows me by Note of hand so that no Demand is to be made on him for any Money due to me.

Item, I give & bequeath to my Son Robert Page his Heirs & Assigns one Acre of Salt Marsh in Hampton Falls adjoining to that Acre which I have given to my son Enoch. Also a Lott of Land in Deerfield in the Township of Notingham where my s'd Son Robert now lives which is the twenty fifth Lott in N'o. in the fifth Range the whole of said Lott be the same more or Less.

Item, I give & bequeath to Each of my Daughters viz:
Elizabeth Locke, Anna Rowe, Mary Hobbs, Marcy Longfellow and Sarah Bachelder twenty five Dollars to be paid to each of them by my Executors five Dollars P'r Year till the whole is Paid.

Item, My Will & I do hereby give to my son Stephen one half of all the Apples that shall grow and be in my Orchard or Orchards for the The Term of Ten Years any thing in this my Will beforementioned to the Contrary Notwithstanding.

Item, My Will & meaning further is and I do hereby:
give & bequeath to my grandson Sam'l Page son of my Son Simon Page the Reversion of forty Acres of land after the Death of his Father the s'd Simon Page s'd forty Acres to lye on the Westerly side of that part of my homestead on the south side of hogpen Road but so as not to take any part or any ways interrupt the Priviledge of the stream & it is to be understood that my Will is that my said Grandson is to have said forty acres after his fathers Decease to him his heirs & Assigns Notwithstanding the form of the Gift abovementioned to my s'd Son Simon which so far as Relates to this Article I hereby Alter.

Item, My Will is & I hereby Give a Puter Platter to be Provided by my Executors, Decent & Sutible? to be kept for the Use of the Church of Christ in Kensingtown.

Lastly, I do by these Presents Constitute & appoint my Sons Stephen Page & Simon Page Executors of this my Will and for Confirmation of all aforegoing, I have hereunto Set my hand & Seal the Day of the Date abovewritten.
