I became interested in genealogy about 10 years ago when my wife told me that she would like to know a bit more about her own family history. We started searching online and, because she is half Swedish, found that the records there are very clear and well kept. She was soon able to trace her Swedish heritage back to the early 1400s but we seemed to draw a blank on the English side as we were unable to discover who her paternal grandfather was. This brick wall seemed insurmountable but, being stubborn and relishing a challenge, I chipped away at it until I finally broke through about 3 years later. By then, I was completely hooked and had gathered a wealth of information, sources and leads to keep me interested for years to come. My only regret is that I didn’t ask all those important questions when my grandparents were still alive and that it took me so long to take any historical interest in the family that was right there in front of me.
