Henry, child of Charles Page & Sarah Page, was born on 17 July 1811 and baptised on 4 August 1811 in Bexley, Kent, England.[1]
In 1835, Henry married Sarah Parkhurst.[2] While in England Henry and Sarah had three children.
Henry Page a sawyer, arrived as a bounty immigrant in Launceston on 30 Aug 1841 through the Application of F. Spencer. He was aged 29 at the time and included in a family group of himself, his wife and three children, two males and one female, One child was below the age of 3 and the other two were aged between 3 and 10. In Tasmania, Henry and Sarah would have two additional children.
After 1844, Henry and the family, with the exception of Henrietta who passed away as an infant, moved to South Australia where two more children were born and Sarah passed away on 31 Aug 1849.
The birth of Henry and Sarah's last child and Sarah's passing occurred at New Tiers in the Adelaide Hills in what is now Lenswood where Henry may have found work in his calling as a sawyer.
Despite its youth, Lenswood's settlement hails back to South Australia's colonial settlement. The area was then known simply as a part of Stringybark Forest, or The New Tiers. The region's Stringybark timbers and goldfields, attracted many settlers to the district.[4]
On 22 Dec 1849, Henry then married Martha jane Elizabeth Taylor.[5]
In 1855, Henry and Sarah's eldest daughter Eliza, only 18 years old, died a painful death from a ruptured abscess, unmarried and with a one month old daughter named Alice.
Henry and Martha had five children in South Australia, before moving across the border in about 1858,[6] eventually to the Forbes district of New South Wales where up to five more children were born around Wilcannia and in the Forbes district. After the birth of Margaret their first child in New South Wales, seven of the Page children were baptised by the Rev, W. T Woodcock in the Church of England Parish of Darling Junction in the County of Murray, Diocese of Sydney on 11 Jan 1859 when they were living at Nilpo (Murray).
