Biography

Ashbel was born in 1724 the youngest child of Deacon Joseph Olmste(a)d and Hannah Marsh.

He married Hannah Newberry and they had nine children:

1. Mabel, b. 1759, d. 1759

3. Ashbel, b. 1761, d. 1808; m. Mary Forbes
4. Elizabeth, b. 1762, d. 1831; m. Aaron Colton
5. Ursula, b. 1764, d. 1834
6. Elihu, b. 1765, d. 1844
7. Hannah, b. 1768, d. 1802; m. Ebenezer Kellogg
8. Amelia, b. 1769, d. 1836; m. Elisha Olcott
9. Naomi, b. 1772, d 1847; m. Norman Olmsted

Ashbel died in 1791. His burial site has not been located but believed to be in East Hartford where many close Olmste(a)d relatives are buried.

Research Notes

Records exist for this family with both spellings of the family name, Olmstead and Olmsted.

The first two children listed in the Olmsted genealogy are both named Mabel and born the same year. It is likely they were twins and the first one was named something else but not properly recorded in the Olmsted genealogy. A profile on WikiTree has not been created for the first Mabel.
