Biography
According to her death certificate, Minerva was born June 1, 1862, Meredith, Delaware Co., NY. She was the daughter of Hannah Odell and Darius Oliver. Her father's pension records show her birthdate as Sept. 1, 1861. The 1870 US Census shows her listed as Margary, age 8 (birthdate 1862) .[1]
She married Joseph Odell, April 6, 1879, in Meredith, Delaware Co., NY.[2]. They had 10 children together.
Minerva and Joseph were double first cousins; they were cousins through each of their parents. Minerva's mother was Hannah Odell; her father was Darius Oliver. Joseph's mother was Emily Oliver, Darius' sister; his father was Reuben Odell, Hannah's brother. They were first cousins through each of their parents.
They were known for taking in members of the family from time to time, even when they had little for themselves.
She died Jan. 2, 1931, Meredith, Delaware Co., NY. Her death certificate is in the possession of her great great granddaughter, Lorraine O'Dell.
Research Notes
To date, only one primary source has been found for Minerva; her death certificate. Fortunately, her death certificate provides several details of her life: her birth date, her death date, her husband's name and her parents' names.
