Immanuel Nobel is Notable.

The Nobel family originated from the village of Östra Nöbbelöv in Scania hence the name(s) Nobelius which was later shortened to Nobel.

Immanuel Nobel d.y. (the younger) was an engineer, architect, inventor and industrialist. He did, among other things, invent the rotary lathe (used in plywood manufacturing).

Immanuel was born March 24, 1801 in Gävle Heliga Trefaldighet[1]. His father was "Chirurg" Immanuel Nobelius d.ä. (the older) and mother Brita Catharina Ahlberg, 30 years old[2]

In 1827 he marries Karolina Andriette Ahlsell in Stockholm.[3] [4]

They would become parents of at least five children;

  • Robert Hjalmar, b. 1829 in Stockholm, d. 1896 in Sweden
  • Ludvig Emanuel, b. 1831 in Stockholm, d. 1888 in Cannes
  • Alfred Bernhard, b. 1833 in Stockholm, d. 1896 in San Remo, Italy
  • Henrietta Charlotta Vilhelmina, b. 1836 in Stockholm
  • Emil Oscar, b. 1843 in St Petersburg, d. 1864 in Stockholm

In 1833, he was living with his wife and three sons in Kvarteret Torsken, Jakob och Johannes parish, Stockholm.[5]

Immanuel dies at/in Heleneborg on September 3, 1872 at the age of 71 year, 5 months and 9 days. Cause of death is listed as gastroenteritis. [6][7]


He was buried September 11, 1872 at Norra begravningsplatsen in Stockholm, Sweden.[8]

According to the website "The Branobel History Website" (actual sources needed, it should not be trusted since it listed his ggp as his parents on 2021-10-16):

  • In Mar 1828, age 27, he applied for patents on three of his machines.
  • parent of eight children, whereof at least 3 who died in infancy
  • Immanuel filed for bankruptsy in 1833 but was able to turn his luck around after turning his attentions to chemistry in Finland and later in Saint Petersburg, where his family was eventually able to join him. He was later able to open a workshop and foundry for more mechanical endeavors. He was awarded an imperial gold medal from Russia Tsar for in 1853 for the manufacture and contribution of steam engines in Russian warships. His success and the promise of more orders from the Russian military encouraged him to increase production but orders ceased after the Tsar died and the government sued for peace. This led to Immanuel returning to Stockholm with his wife and youngest son.
  • At that time of his death he owned a 25 shares in his son, Alfred's nitroglycerin ventures. His wife inherited those shares which continued to increase in value.
