Biography

Obituary Harlan Richard "Dick" Naud May 31 1920-Feb 23 2019

Born in Valdez Alaska to Jessie Muriel Jepson and Charles Edward Naud.

While not born deaf, he became deaf as a toddler after repeated ear infections.

The family moved from Alaska and finally settled in Columbia City area of Seattle. As a youth he sold newspapers in downtown Seattle in those green newspaper stands that still are found on several Seattle streets.

He attended Franklin High School. While attending UW he enlisted in the service WWII Aug 22, 1942.

He was stationed in India as a Staff Sargent While still in India at end of WWII when he received word his dad was dying He travel back to Seattle in time for his dad's death on Oct 20 1945 He re-enlisted for a second hitch and was stationed in Chico California He was really to re-enlist for a third hitch and make a career out of the service but the re-enlisting doctor asked "How did you get in the service when you can't hear?" to which Dick answered "the enlisting doctor asked 'Can you hear?' I replied 'Yes' and I was in. At that point the doctor told him his career in the service was over.

Dick moved back to Seattle where he worked for Standard Oil. Dick's best friend John Ingebretson encouraged the relationship with John's sister Mary June Ingebretson.

On May 14 1949 Dick and June were married at St Alphonse church.
