In the 1910 census, Robert and his family were living in Moon Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.[4] He and his wife have had 3 children by this date and lost their oldest child at 3 months of age. His cause of death was congestive heart disease and failure to thrive. Robert was working a homestead or as listed on the census a home farm. He eventually became a glass blower for a local business making light bulbs. When his health began to fail, he was told by his doctor, that he needed to make a move out of the city. Robert had respirtory issues, and these same problems still bother several of his descendants. Asthma, COPD, and other respirtory ailments run in the family.[5]
In 1918, Robert filled out a WWI draft card. He was described as tall with a slender build. Oddly, his hair and color of eyes was left blank, but he does list a health condition of a floating kidney.[1]
Robert Ross moved his family to Pine Hill, Georgia, on the outskirts of Augusta, Georgia sometime between March of 1917 and October of 1918[6]. As the story goes, Robert pulled a wagon up to the front door, and told Lelia they were moving and to start packing. She had no notice before leaving her home, and she was pregnant at the time, and had several small children to watch over.[5]
He was offered a position managing the farm of Dr. Harold Applegate Miller called Mount Repose Plantation. Dr. Miller was a doctor in Pittsburgh, but owned the property in Georgia. Robert wasn't the only one in his family to make the move to Georgia. His brother John Calvin, and his sister, Elizabeth Jadot, both lived in the same community for a very short time before returning to Pennsylvania. In 1920, Robert and his brother John are found living side by side in Augusta, Georgia. John is a miller in a grits mill and Robert is listed as a general farmer. He was managing "Mount Repose Plantation" the farm owned by Dr. Miller. [7] The family was noted several times in the society pages.
Pine Hill, Ga Society Pages published in the Augusta Chronicle
Mr. R. R. Mutimer and family have returned home after a month's visit to relatives in Pittsburgh. Mr. and Mrs. Mutimer and children made the trip there and back in their automobile. About five days was taken up in making the trip back home, stopping at several different points of interest, enjoying the trip to the fullest extent.
Mr. R. R. Mutimer, former manager of Dr. Miller's farm, "Mount Repose" and his family have moved into Augusta. Mr. and Mrs. Mutimer made many warm friends while in this section who are sorry they are no longer with them. Best wishes are extended him in his new field.
The family thrived there in the Pine Hill community, until September of 1921 when the family moved into Augusta, Georgia. There he became a dairy farmer, opening the Meadowbrook Dairy. There is still a street in the area where the dairy used to be named Meadowbrook Drive. Also a street named for the family named Mutimer Drive.

In 1930 and 1940, Robert was listed as the owner/operator of the Meadowbrook Dairy Farm.[18][19]
Robert Ross died December 13, 1941. His death certificate says he died of Stomach Cancer. He is buried in Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, Georgia.[20][21]
