Biography

Alan Lorraine Mosley was born on December 30, 1915; his birth was registered at Chorlton, Lancashire, England, in the January quarter of 1916. He was a son of Edmund George Loraine Mosley and Annie Twiss Mosley.

There is no sign of Alan or his family in the UK census data for 1921.

In 1934, Alan is elected to membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and his place of residence is listed at 12 Berkeley Avenue, Manchester.

At the time of the 1939 Register of England and Wales, at the start of World War II, Alan is a guest at the Cora Hotel, Woburn Place, London, and lists his occupation as a "Mechanical hydraulic engineer".

In 1942, Alan is married to Iris Winifred Michaela Hall. Their marriage is registered at Manchester, Lancashire, in the October quarter of that year. They may have had two daughters, but only one of these children has been identified to date.

In 1980 Alan is listed as living at Hollies, Kent Road West, Manchester, Lancashire (although his wife appears to be living at 12 Berkeley Avenue, Manchester).

His wife Iris died in 1998.

From 2003 to 2009, we can identify Alan as living at 3 Grove Park, Barnard Castle, Durham.

Alan clearly passed away at Barnard Castle, Durham, England on December 24, 2009, a few days short of his 94th birthday. He was buried on January 5, 2010.

Note: Although his death is clearly stated to have occurred at Barnard Castle, and he had been living there for at least 6 years, his "residence" is stated to have been at Victoria Park, Manchester, and it is unclear where he or his ashes were buried.
