Biography

Sarah Jane Mosley was born on December 22, 1822, at Manchester, Lancashire, England. She was a daughter of William Mosley and Sarah Whittaker Mosley. She was baptized on March 9, 1823, at the Collegiate Church of St. Mary, St. Denys, and St. George, Manchester, on the same day as her elder sister Mary Ann.

Sarah Jane does not appear to ever have married or had children. We can identify her in the UK census data as follows:

• In 1841 she is living with her parents and siblings at Russell Street, Manchester' she is said to be 15 but she is really 18 years of age; she lists no occupation
• In 1851 she is living at The Oaks, Rusholme, Lancashire, and lists her occupation as a "Cook" for the Ogden family
• In 1871 she is living at 5 Brighton Place, Chester Road, Stretford, Lancashire, and she lists her occupation as "Housekeeper"

In 1881 there is an unmarried, 60-year-old Sarah Mosley who is visiting a family called King at Chorlton on Medlock, Lancashire, and she gives her occupation as a "Dressmaker". This might possibly be Sarah Jane Mosley, but we can't be certain.

Sarah Jane Mosley passed away on November 18, 1898, at 37 Mawson Street, Ardwick, Manchester. In the probate of her will she left her estate to her niece, Sarah Ann (Mosely) Heelis (a daughter of her brother George Mosley). We don't have any information about the date or place of her burial.
