European Aristocracy
Sir John Mosley was a member of the aristocracy in England.

John was a son of Nicholas Mosley and Elizabeth Parker born in 1732. He was baptized on February 22, 1732 (Julian calender) at the Collegiate Church of St Mary. (Under the heading "Christenings in Febr 1732" the baptismal record reads, "22 John Parker son to Nicholas Mosley". John Mosley).

At the death of his father Nicholas, John Parker Mosley was apparently informally adopted by his godfather, Sir Oswald Mosley, the 2nd Baronet of Rolleston and Ancoats (who never married and had no children of his own). It was presumably Sir Oswald who financed John's early involvement in the hat manufacturing business, and (despite the mis-spent youth), Sir Oswald's will designated John as his heir if his brother (the Rev. Sir John Mosley, 1706-1779) also died without issue, which did indeed happen. [1]

On April 1, 1760 in Lancashire, John married Elizabeth Bayley. They had 8 children[2]:

  1. Oswald Mosley (b.17 March 1761- d.27 July 1789 m. Elizabeth Tonman
  2. John Peploe Mosley (1766-1833) m. Sarah Maria Paget
  3. Ashton Nicholas Mosley (1768-1830) m. Mary Morley
  4. Elizabeth Mosley (1770-1853) m. Streynsham Master
  5. Frances Mary Parker Mosley (b. 1770 - d.5 July 1844) m. George Smith (1765-1836)
  6. Mary Mosley (? - c1792) m. Henry Feilden
  7. Anne Mosley (1777-1810) m. Robert Feilden
  8. Penelope Mosley (c1779-1812) m. Henry Every

On March 24, 1781 he was knighted and became the 1st Baronet Mosley of Ancoats.

He passed away on September 29, 1798 in Rolleston on Dove where he was later interred in the family vault with his wife Elizabeth [3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

I don't understand the context of this Somerset record, and why it would pertain to John Parker Mosley Baronet in Lancashire, but this record seems to mention him.
