Biography

Eléonore Morin, also called Eleanor, was born in 1857 in Sillery, Canada East, to Joseph Morin and Marie Pageot and baptized Marie Eléonore at St. Colombe church.[1]

Eléonore's family was part of an early wave of migrants to the United States. On census records, their arrival date was variously given as 1868, 1869, and 1870. The family, minus the mother, appear in the 1870 United States census living in Stronach, Manistee Co., Michigan, with 13-year-old "Lenora" listed as "keeping house."[2]

Two and a half years later, at only 15 years old, Eleanor married John (born Jean Baptiste) Clavette in Manistee County. The record has her age as 16.[3] The 1880 census finds "Lenora Clibet" with John and four children.[4] The 1890 US Census was mostly lost, and there is no record for this family, but in 1900 they were living in Ludington, Mason Co., with six children.[5] According to Find-A-Grave, Eléonore had 12 children between 1875 and 1896, including a set of twins.

There is no record found (yet) for the death of John Clavette, but in 1908 in Manistee, "Eleonore" married Edmond Boulanger, also widowed, son of Octave Boulanger and Séraphine Fournier from Montmagny, Quebec.[6] They had no children together. The 1910 census finds them living in Manistee with three of Eléonore's children and two of Edmond's.[7] In 1920, only Edmond's 23-year-old daughter Blanche remained with them.[8]

Edmond died in 1927. Eleanor died two and a half years later in Detroit, 72 years old (maybe in hospital -- her address on the record is Manistee).[9] Her body was buried in Pere Marquette Cemetery in Ludington, Michigan.[10]

Biographie
