Biographie

Biography

Joseph Morin was born in 1820 in Sainte-Marie, Lower Canada, to Basile Morin and Marie Thibodeau.[1]

If the Joseph Morinin this document is this one, then in 1842, at 22 years old, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed for a year in Tamarack (today Brunswick), New York, northeast of Albany.[2]

In 1843 in Saint-Sylvestre, Canada East, Joseph married Marie Vallières, daughter of François Vallières and Marie Filion from the parish of St-Sylvestre.[3] According to the 1851 census, they had at least four children.[4] (Reference from Ancestry because the image at the Census Search site is not correct.) Marie Vallières died in June 1850.

In September 1850 in Sainte-Marie, Joseph married Marie Pageot (also Pageau), daughter of Charles Pageau and Archange Hallé, also from Sainte-Marie.[5] The following census shows Joseph and Marie with four of Joseph's children. Joseph was working as a carpenter.[4] There is no match with the census of 1861.

Joseph migrated to the United States. The year of migration is not known, nor whether Marie was with him. She died before the census of 1870, which shows Joseph in Stronach, Michigan, without Marie, with a son from her marriage to Marie Vallières and four children from this marriage to Marie Pageot.[6]

Joseph died in Stronach in 1877. The death record has not been found.
