Biography
??? Born in Randolph Co, Alabama, but moved to Texas with his widowed mother after the Civil War. But John returned and married his childhood sweetheart in 1880. By then they both had had brief careers as teachers.
Moved to Heflin in early 1881 because of the railroad and anticipated boom. Established himself as a merchant. First mayor of Heflin in 1882. They built the Morgan home around that time, now 301 Ross Street. The home is still standing and is on Heflin's main street, next to Dryden's Funeral Home. Now the home is known as the Colonial Cottage and has been placed on the National Historic Register by the owner, Pamela P. Payne.
