Wales to Pennsylvania
Cadwalader Morgan was Quaker, a member of the Penllyn Monthly Meeting (at the head of Lake Bala) in Merionethshire, Wales. He had greatly "suffered" in Wales, because of his prominence, and religious faith. He and many others from that meeting decided to emigrate to Pennsylvania. In 1682, while in Wales he purchased from John ap Thomas and Edward Jones 156 & 1/4 acres in Pennsylvania. He came to Pennsylvania in 1683 with others from the Penllyn MM who had purchased land in the "Thomas & Jones Tract", including Hugh Roberts, Edward Owen, Hugh John, William Jones, Katherine Thomas, and Gainer Roberts. (Browning [1])
He arrived in Philadelphia (Glenn [2])
with his wife, Jane, his child Edward and another possible passenger identified as "Morgan".[3]
In Wales
Lloyd[4] identified Edward and Morgan as his sons. Records of the Society of Friends near Bala, North Wales, now preserved in the Records of the Merion Meeting in Pennsylvania show
Before coming to Pennsylvania he resided on a farm in Gwernefel, near Bala, and was called yeoman. (Glenn [2]) His 1683 Certificate of Removal from the Penllyn MM in Wales is filed with the Radnor MM near Philadelphia. It indicates he had been a member of the Quaker movement for 8 years.
Estimated Birth
Immigration 1683, less 8 yrs Quaker, less age 21 ? when joined = birth 1654.
Consistency check - he was 25 when oldest child Morgan was born.
Parents
Morgan Cadwalader and Ellen vch. William.
Glenn[2] with the knowledge:
found the 1696 Will of Morgan Cadwalader, which satisfied all these requirements. "Morgan Cadwalader, of the parish of Llanvawr (Llanfor), Merionethshire,
yeoman...Will dated 4 April, 1696.
Proved 11 May, 1696 (Glenn, pg 69). Named in his Will are children: John, Robert, Lewis, David and Margaret. Cadwalader was not named in his Will, but probably had his portion when he purchased land in Pennsylvania in 1682.
Also named in Morgan's Will was his wife Ellen vch. William. Glenn speculates (page 87 footnote)
"Ellen vch. William was probably the daughter of William Owen, of Llanfor, and sister to Elizabeth Williams, mother of Hugh Roberts."
Note: Browning [1], based on Cadwalader's Will naming his brothers Lewis Morgan, and John Morgan, assumed that brother John Morgan was the John Morgan of Radnor, heir of James Morgan. And therefore Cadwalader was the son of James Morgan and Jane Evans. There is no evidence James Morgan had sons named Cadwalader or Lewis.
Marriage and Children
Cadwalader married Jane Price (aka Rees or Rhys or Prees) [Browning, p.79] [1] in Wales, about 1677 based on birth of eldest son. Jane's brother Edward ap Rees or Rhys was a yeoman and minister among the Friends and a founder of the Merion Meeting who came with his wife and two children in [Dr.] Edward Jone's party from Kiltalgarth, Penllyn, Merionethshire. [Browning, p.79] [1]
Cadwalader and jane Morgan's known chidren were [not necessarily a complete list]:
Notes: Cadwalader's Will (see below) mentions 3 sons-in-law, (Robert Evan, Abel Thomas and Hugh Evan) but no daughters. Sarah, wife of Robert Evan, was a 2nd wife of Robert Evan, not Cadwalader's daughter.
Pennsylvania Land Records and Residency
"Cadwalader Morgan bought, by deed, 1.2mo. 1682, from (John ap) Thomas & (Edward) Jones, 156 1/2 acres. He sold 76 1/2 acres in Goshen to 'John Roberts, malter,' and retained balance in Merion township. he increased his Merion holdings with 50 acres bought of Rees Jones, and 76 1/2 acres in Merion, which he had by deed 18.4.1684, from john William, so (he) had 202 1/2 acres in Merion township." [Browning, p.47-48, 56-57, 79] [1]
1682 "William Jones' son, John [ap] William, inherited of the [John ap] Thomas and [Dr. Edward] Jones tract, 156 1/4 acres 'less three acres of the 'liberty land', as in each cae of this amount 'liberty land,' when allowed, always reduced township holding. He sold all his land ; to Cadwalader Morgan 76 1/2 acres and balance to Edward Rees who sold to Ellis David. [Browning, p.57] [1]
Cadwalader Morgan, yeoman of Gwernevel [Meronethshire], 76 1/2 acres, also probably a passenger on the 'Morning Star' in 1683, settled with his family on his Merion allotment on the Schuylkill, and increased his holding by purchase of the adjoining seventy-six and a half acres of Rees John William on the north and west, and the seventy-six and a half acres of John [ap] Williams (son of William ap John) on the southeast, the deeds being dated 4th mo. (June), 18th day 1694. This land was all resurveyed in one tract of two hundred and twenty-three and a half acres in 1701. Cadwalader Morgan bought the adjoining land of Hugh Jones (Hugh John Thomas), containing ninety-two acres, January 19, 1707-08 and on May 30, 1709, sold both tracts to Robert Evans. These lands afterwards passed into the possession of the Roberts family. [2]
Some Quaker Records
19th day 4th month (June) 1691 Cadwalader Morgan, along with others, were witnesses at the Haverford MM marriage between "Robert William of Merion, Philadelphia County" and "Gwen Cadwalader late of the Radnor MM". Note the Old Haverford Friends MM served a portion of the Welsh Track originally comprising 'Old Haverford, Merion, Radnor & Plymouth Meetings.
Cadwalader was mentioned in Quaker Meeting records of Philadelphia Monthly Meeting on 11 January 1693 at Radnor Monthly Meeting (MM) of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, and also in the 7 December 1693 MM. [5][6]

Death
According to author Glenn, who recorded his original land holdings by deed, Cadwalader passed away in 1711. [2]
Will
An abstract of "Cadder"s Will is in Phildelphia records[7]
"MORGAN, CADDER (CADWALADER). Merion Township, Philadelphia County.

son-in-law Robert Evan. Sarah wife of said Robert Evan. Elizabeth
daughter of son-in-law Abel Thomas. Sister-in-law Elizabeth wife of
brother Lewis Morgan and her children whose names are not given.
Executors: Sons-in-law Robert Evan and Abel Thomas.
Overseers: Edward Jones, John Roberts, David Jones and Thomas Jones.

Browning ([1] pages 106-7) also presents an abstract of the Will. It differs in that after 'brother John Morgan' is added '(of Radnor)', after 'son-in-law Robert Evan' is added '(of Gwynedd)', ' child' instead of 'children' of ' sister-in-law Elizabeth, wife of brother Lewis Morgan', and witness 'Thomas Jones' instead of '... Jones'
