Biography

Sussanh Susy Morgan married my 2nd great grandfather Brittan Sanders 26 Jun 1851, and they had one daughter together Sarah Sally Sanders, born 16 Jun 1852. Three months after Sussanh Sussy Morgan-Sanders gave birth, she was having complications from birth and died. She was buried at "Brown's Chapel Christian Church" on Brown's Chapel Road, in what is called "Spies". However, the actual Address is listed as Robins, Moore County, NC. I (William "Bill" Saunders Curry). I stood over her grave and took pictures back in 2008. Although there is no birth record or death record to be found, the family is history is strong. There are many local genealogist that know the history. My 2nd cousin 1x removed, "Stella Mae Saunders-Morgan" wrote a book called "Hardy and Moore", which referred to Brittan Sanders father Hardy Sanders. He was one of the founding fathers of the church and cemetery that Susy is buried in. They have a family reunion there the third Sunday in September every year since 1934 with the exception of Covid 2020 and 2022.

As the story was handed down to me, Susy's next oldest sister in line stepped in to help with the baby. Sarah Ann "Spicy" Rebecie Morgan, born 1 JUN 1837 • Moore County, North Carolina, USA. It was a customary tradition among the family to help out when a child becomes motherless.

She ended up having a child with Brittan the following year, my Great Grandfather Nathan Sanders b. 4 Dec 1854. After that, she ended up marrying Brittan in 1856. Together they had 9 children of their own. Two with no names that died at birth (1857 and 1872).

To further complicate matters, there was a fire at the county records repository in Carthage that destroyed the majority of the records. This was a big story for the locals and made headlines. Unfortunately, my family Bible only goes back to Nathan Sanders. No other documentation has been found to exist. Several genealogists have longed for a family Bible to show up. We have no actual dates. The date of her death is pinpointed by the fact that her daughter was born 3 months before her death, which makes it Sept 1852. The location she died is based on the fact that she died at home and Brittan and her lived in Bensalem, Moore, NC as evidenced by her. The house they lived in was moved to Southern Pines where it is now owned by the Moore County Historical Association.[1]
