Lillian Mary Morgan (also called Lily or Lillie) was born in March 1899 in Petersburg, Dinwiddie County, Virginia, the daughter of Ida Tucker and George Morgan.
In the 1900 census, she was one year old and living with her family in Petersburg.[1]
In the 1910 census, she was 11 years old and living with her brother George and their widowed father in Petersburg. Their household included her maternal aunt and uncle.[2]
She graduated from Peabody High School in Petersburg, which was the first public high school established for African Americans in the state of Virginia.[3]
In the 1920 census, she was living in Petersburg with her family.[4]
She married William Harold Joice on 15 April 1920 in Alexandria, Virginia.[5]
In the 1930 census, they were living in Washington, DC, with three children and William's aunt Lenora, next door to William's brother James and his wife Bertie.[6]
In the 1940 census, they were living in Washington, DC, with three children, next door to William's brother James and his wife Bertie.[7]
In the 1950 census, they were living in Washington, DC, with two daughters and a son-in-law, next door to William's widowed sister-in-law Bertie.[8]
Lillian Mary (Morgan) Joice passed away on 11 November 1957 in Washington, DC.[3][9]
