Biography

1776 Project
Private John Morgan Jr. served with Select Militia, Dorchester County Militia, Maryland Militia during the American Revolution.

John was born 1761 in St. Mary's, Maryland. He had a twin brother named Thomas. He married Nancy Reede in 1784.

While a resident of Dorchester County, Maryland, John Morgan enlisted in 1780, and served about nine months as a private in Captains Bartholomew Ennold’s and Joseph Dathen’s Maryland Companies. He enlisted, date not stated, and served about one month as private in Captain Staplefoot’s Maryland Company.

About 1783 he moved from Dorchester County, Maryland, to Kentucky. He was allowed pension on his application executed September 21, l832, at which time he was a resident of Oldham County, Kentucky.

In the 1810 census, John was in Henry, Kentucky, United States.[1] In the 1820 census, John was in West Port, Henry, Kentucky, United States.[2]

In the 1830 census, John was in Oldham, Kentucky.[3]

John died on 1 July 1840 and was buried in Sligo Baptist Church Cemetery, Sligo, Henry County, Kentucky, United States.[4]
