William Morgan was born in Saint Mary's Parish, Cecil County, Maryland on the 17th of February 1749. He was the son of Hugh Morgan and Ann Catherine Morgan. William's birth is recorded in the registry of Saint Mary Anne's Episcopal Church in North East, Maryland. [1] [2]

  • About 1768, William Morgan moved from Cecil County, MD to Washington County, MD, a distance of about miles 140 via the Great Wagon Road. (Elkton, Lancaster, York, Gettysburg, Haggerstown)
  • About 1778, William married Margaret (Unknown) in Maryland.
  • In 1783, William Morgan was the owner a 40 acres tract of land named "Bennits Port" in the Lower Antietam and Sharpsburg area of Washington County. [3]
  • 1790 US Federal Census for Washington County, Maryland shows the William Morgan household consisted of 1 White male over 16 (William) and White females {no ages given}. [4]
  • On 16 March 1791, William Morgan and Jesse Reeder jointly patented a 75 acre tract called "Mount Serato", in Washington County, Maryland. [5]
  • On 11 April 1791, William Morgan recorded a Bond by Jessee Reeder for 100 pounds to cover their joint cost to survey and patenting "Mount Serado". [6]
  • On 19 November 1791, William Morgan sold the property called "The Russian Boatswain" containing 41 acres for 89 pounds, to Mary Morgan, wife of the late Moses Morgan. [7]
