Biography

  • Charles was born in 1850. He passed away in 1922.
  • 1850, 10 August:- Baptism; Charles Talgai; s/o James and Kate Morgan; Born - 10 April 1850; Talgai; Overseer; by Rev. Benjamin Glennie. ( on the same visit Rev. Glennie also baptised John; s/o of William and Mary Spreadborough; Born - 28 July 1850; Talgai; Gardener)
  • 1869, 24 February:- Charles T. Morgan of Summerhill, Warwick, has advertised for information leading to the recovery of three horses which had gone missing from the Well Station, Rosenthal. Two were Bays and one a Chestnut, all described clearly with colourings and brands. Offered £1/10/0 or 10/- for each horse returned to him.
  • 1869:- MORGAN, Charles T; Warwick; Letter Carrier; 24 May 1869; £100 p.a.
  • 1872, 27 January:- Transfer; Mr. Charles Morgan, Clerk in the Post-office, having been promoted, is about to be removed to Cardwell. It is the intention of Mr. Morgan's friends to invite him to a farewell dinner previous to his departure for the North.
  • It would appear that there was a change of plans as the next article shows, Charles ended up in Goondiwindi, where a new office was to open after the Telegraph line finally reached there.
  • 1872, 1 February:- Charles Talgai is newly appointed as appointee number 43 in the Electric Telegraph service.
  • 1872, 2 March:- GOONDIWINDI; There's a hitch in the way of opening our telegraph, although everything seems in working order. Mr. Belford, Telegraph Master, and Mr. Morgan, Line-repairer, arrived a month ago, and are yet waiting for orders. Mr. Campbell, we presume, will be here at the opening of the line, whenever that be. (Mr. Campbell was most likely a politician). Our little township of late has made a rather respectable start. A Dr. Sauhse and family, Mr. Belford, Station-master, and Mr. Morgan, connected with the telegraph office, have added a good deal to our respectability.
  • Note:- The telegraph line went from Allora via Leyburn to Goondiwindi and not through Warwick.
  • 1872, 27 July:- GOONDIWINDI; Rain has at length fallen in seemingly sufficient quantity. The boat, given us by the Hon. the Minister for Works, was launched to-day, there being present at the ceremony of christening, Messrs, Marshall, Myles, Balmain, Belford, and Morgan, and the name - significant a few years ago - the "Warhawk".
  • 1873:- Morgan, Charles T; appointed Line Repairer in Charge of a Station; 1 March 1873; £150 p.a.; (This position was at the Dee River/Dundee telegraph station) ( Charles was allowed Quarters, fuel, light, water and forage for a horse)
  • 1873:- Charles married Eliza Jane Holmes, 19 May 1873, in Rockhampton, Queensland.

Buried 16 DEC 1922. Mt Morgan, Queensland.

Charles Talgai Morgan was born in 1854 at Warwick, Queensland, Australia. He was the older son of James Morgan and Kate Barton.[1]

He passed away in 1922 at Warwick.[2]

Morgan-25656 and Morgan-21554 appear to represent the same person because: Definitely the same person, 1854 appears to be the baptism date, not the birth date.
