Biography

Emma Morgan /Ema Mokena / Ema Ripihia

February 13, Sunday.--I preached at St. Mark's, Te Aroha, morning and evening, and at the latter service held a Confirmation. There was a good congregation in the morning, and an overflowing one in the evening. The site of the church, which is very central and convenient, was the gift of the Maori wife of Mr. Lipsey, the daughter of the late Chief Mokena Hou (Morgan).

Her father is Chief Te Mokena, and mother is Rina, of Te Aroha

Died aged aged 55

We regret to announce that Mrs Lipsey, wife of George Lipsey and owner of considerable property in Te Aroha died yesterday evening somewhat unexpectedly of pneumonia.

Augustus was Akuhata koropango but went by the name Augustus. He was Ema and George Lipseys oldest son.

The August Morgan (died 1900) who is buried near Mokena Hou and Rina is their eldest son, Akuhata Mokena. (The Augustus that Maxine is referring to was Mokena’s grandson August Koropango Lipsey, the son of Ema Mokena and George Lipsey, died 1936 approx)

On an aside, as you have had some access to the family histories of the Morgans and Lipseys, would you have any idea who August Morgan was who died in 1900? Grave in Te Aroha with the other family graves, so must be related. See https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Te_Aroha_Cemetery-6
