Biography

George was born about 1883. He was the son of George Lipsey and Emma Morgan. He passed away in 1892 when he was 9 years old after falling into the river from his canoe.

A brief note is recorded in the Thames Star of 15 January 1892, stating that "The body of young Lipsey was found to-day near the pah." ^[1] This body recovery led to an inquest that was held in 1892 (see Archway reference).

He was buried in Te Aroha Cemetery in the area reserved for the Mokena family. His headstone and transcription notes a death year of 1891, however, the newspaper accounts make it reasonably clear that he drowned in 1892 not 1891, and the death registration and inquest were in 1892.
