Thomas Molineux, son of Thomas Molineux and his wife Hannah, was born in Manchester, Lancashire on 16 Sep 1802.[1] As a youth, he studied the flute and also played the violin, cello and double bass. He was an accomplished professional musician on the bassoon and the double bass, playing in the Gentlemen's Hall Concerts in Manchester.[2]
Thomas married Maria Mainwaring in Manchester on 08 Jan 1828.[3] Later that year, Thomas went into business as a pianoforte maker. They started their married life in Manchester.[4] Thomas and Maria moved to London and their son Edward took over the business in Manchester. In 1881, they were living at Keans Villa in Park Village East in the Regent's Park sub-district of St Pancras, London.[5]
Thomas, throughout his life, made several contributions to the Royal Society of Music. A portrait of him painted in 1881 was bequeathed to the Society in 1891.
Thomas' wife Maria died in 1890. Thomas died on 31 Jan 1891 and his will was proved at the Principal Registry in Lancashire by his son Edward on 25 Feb 1891.[6] He was buried in Brompton Cemetery next to his wife.[7]
