Biography

John Minchin is an Anzac who served in World War One.

John Minchin was born on 4 November 1885. He was the son of John Minchin and Louisa Watkins.

His father John passed away on 28 July 1913.

When the 1st World War broke out, John was working as a Farmer. He enlisted and served as a Lance Corporal/Military with the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade, New Zealand Expeditionary Force,

Sadly his eldest sister Gertrude died on 12 November 1918 at age 43, after contracting Influenza during the Spanish Flu Pandemic. Soon after his brother Frederick died on 1 December 1918 at age 40 after also succumbing to Influenza.

John returned from the war, and he married Elsie Veronica Morgan on 15 September 1919 in Christchurch, New Zealand.

They went on to have two children.

On 2 December 1938 his mother Louisa passed away, aged about 84.

In the 1946 New Zealand, Electoral Rolls (1853-2010), John Minchin was recorded living at Gilletta Road, Mt Roskill, Auckland, a Farmer. Also in the household was his wife Elsie Veronica Minchin and their only son John Chaytor Minchin, employed as a Plasterer.

John Minchin passed away on 19 June 1954 at the age of 68, and was buried on 21 June 1954 at Waikumete Cemetery & Crematorium, Glen Eden, Auckland Council, Auckland, New Zealand^[1][2]. PLOT: Protestant Lawn A, Row 13, Plot 1
