It's very doubtful that NJ service record belongs to this Richard Mills. Why would a 38 year-old from North Carolina with eight young kids travel 500 miles to do something contrary to his religion? Plus his son Joseph was born in July 1779, which puts the conception date right in the middle of that service period.

See also this record which gives both death dates of Hannah and Richard, consistent with the dates of Hannah Unknown record

Richard, 10/19/1813

Hannah, 1/21/1833, in her 88th year (which puts her DOB at 1745), see also Find A Grave Memorial# 118439407 for other notes

I have reason to believe that Richard Mills was not married to Hannah Osborne.
  • The dates of birth and death for Hannah (Unknown) match with the dates of this Richard Mills.
  • There were apparently 2 Richard and Hannah at the same time in the same area, but there was a 10 year difference in the death of Hannah. Also, the Osbornes were in Virginia - this particular group in question went from North Carolina to Tennessee.
